For the first time in Rwanda and East Africa the Rwanda Media Programme offers at Kwetu Film Institute a two years training programme for media designers with a diploma as final degree. The media designer programme is integrated into the TVET system (technical and vocational education and training).
This two years full time education is open for young people who are interested in the technical aspects of media, tv and film. (Applicants have to provide a Senior 6 Certificate.)
Technical experience is not required. Rwanda Media Project is looking for highly commited, motivated trainees.
The curriculum is based on the German dual education system. Experienced trainers and mentors of Deutsche Welle Akademie, the leading media training institute of Germany, in cooperation with Rwandan colleagues, are conducting the education.
The vocational training is combining hands-on-training, theoretical background and internships and will be realised in four semesters. Each semester consists of 10 weeks hands-on training and eight to ten weeks of internships. Internships can take place at Kwetu production house as well as with other African and German partners.
During this first period only 15 students will be intensely trained on high standard technical equipment.
The hands-on-training offers the following topics:
– intense camera, sound and editing training
– pre- and postproduction systems
– media genres, formats and ethics in film, TV and cross-media
– planning, preparing and implementing production processes
It delivers an insight into:
– verbal and non verbal communication
– media and society
– media economics
– transmission systems
During the internships students will work on real projects in several production houses in Africa or Europe.
East Semester will finish with tests. The final examination after four semesters is the realisation of an own entire project and contains preproduction, production and postproduction.
We especially encouraged young women to apply for the programme.
The programme started July 28th with a three days assessment center for the best 30 applicants. Afterwards the final 15 participants have been selected by a jury. CONGRATULATIONS to all!
The apprenticeship programme lasts for 2 years.
Applicants must be citizens of East African Community and need to provide a Senior 6 Certificate. The programme will be conducted in English.
Kwetu is not a boarding school. Participants need to provide accomodation and transport by themselves.
The registration fee for the 15 selected participants is 40,000 RWF.
The semester fee is 350,000 RWF.
Scholarships might be available for selected students.
